On a photo and food safari Friday night, I encountered unexpected color under the florescent light of a shop window.

This Too Shall Pass
I've just heard that Jill Burnett of Salem Daily Photo died Thursday. While I had never met her outside of our blog universe, I am saddened by the news. She had visited and commented on Willits Daily Photo, and was always kind. Some months ago, she took a break from her blog in order to attend to her husband in hospice. He preceded her in death by a month.
I know she was a woman of faith, and I hope that comforts her children and grandchildren.

Remote Property
A couple of months ago, I took a drive around a road I'd never been on before, leading into the southwest hills of the Outlet Creek drainage (Little Lake Valley). Still not as many scenic views as I hoped, especially not with adequate turnouts. I discovered a nice spot with horses, labeled "Government Property"- no more specific than that, which seemed suspicious. Most agencies identify themselves. Anyway, I stayed on the road.

Dog Day at the Rodeo
A sweet little husky puppy quietly stayed in his owner's lap as the Frontier Days rodeo festivities got underway.
This one-eyed dog decided to rest with its good eye down, even as people circulated about, on their way to the restrooms and food vendors. Remarkable trust, or dog tired?
I missed capturing the moment when the very big, and very little dogs met nose to nose. They shared a shy tail wag, then decided to part politely.

Muffler Man Cowboy
As mentioned last year on Willits Daily Photo, the rodeo grounds include this re-purposed statue, once an advertisement for a chain of muffler shops somewhere. He's been around for years and frequently gets a new coat of paint and other repairs. This was taken just as the Frontier Days Rodeo was about to begin late this afternoon.
