Hah! P! It's herbed yogurt, dolloped on top. Easy to prevent its appearance, although I love it. You can have the pickle spear and one half of the sandwich, and I'll have the other with the soup.
Yum! I was just talking with my daughter about the Russian influences in NorCal and how I used to have borscht for lunch at the Russian Miniature Bakery on Clement Street in SF when I worked on California St. Ardella's version looks harty and beautiful.
