The last image shows the solar eclipse projected through fir needles, like thousands of pinhole cameras.

Astral Projections
First, for comparison, what the shadows from the oak boughs look like against my shed wall just before the eclipse began. Then, as the moon obscured the sun's rays, the tiny gaps between the leaves functioned more vividly as thousands of pinhole lenses, safely showing the progress of the event, and casting images of countless crescent suns.

Highway 20 Ridge Crest Views
Turnouts at the top of the first grade going west from Willits allow for some lovely views when the weather is clear. People tend to gather here for astronomical events, away from the lights nearer to town.

Breezy Pastures
A cold, breezy day out in Little Lake Valley set the Old Man's Beard lichen swaying. Then, I spied a sun-bathing black bull in a meadow, with only barbed wire and brambles to separate us.

Outlet Creek at Covelo Road
After flowing north from Little Lake Valley, Outlet Creek turns eastward on its path to the branches of the Eel River.
