Springtime for Acorn Woodpeckers

Recently fledged acorn woodpeckers gathered on a power pole on a sunny late afternoon. There were about four of them, and the telltale of their youth was the flapping wing action of babies when mom was still perched there. I couldn't get all of them in one shot.

Either those are last year's woodpeckers or you live in a time warp. We are months away from baby woodpeckers.

Ernie, I may have misread the situation as explained here: Acorn Woodpecker Facts

It seems they stay in family groups for years, and the ones I saw briefly fluttering may have been pesky one-year-olds. These were over on Locust Street, near the middle school.
