Redwoods and Emus

An old ranch with a great view over the Navarro River gulch belongs to a retired veterinarian now. He used to have beautiful Devonshire cattle, but now mostly raises chickens and two lovely emus. It's one thing to get a few pictures of them from behind the fence, and quite another thing to find one on the loose in the road. I had to creep past this one over in the left lane, as the bird slowly strode down the right, seeming to hesitate at each step, gliding its way to nowhere in particular.

Should he be out? Pretty, fluffy, furry thing. I'm concerned for his safety.

I know what you mean. It's a quiet country road, but I think this emu found an open gate.
